It's incredibly surprising that Prince allowed himself to look so bad

Maybe he was trying to give off a tortured artist vibe with his character and the film is semi-autobiographical. But still, Prince comes across as a serious asshole in this film. He he treats Appolonia (and pretty much all the women around him) like crap. It makes you wonder why her character is so romantically drawn to him is a totally underdeveloped mystery, since he abuses her fairly routinely. Prince humiliates her, beats her, kind of forces her into a date-rapey type of situation (when he “saves” her from Morris Day on his bike) and seems to expect her to be grateful.

It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but my vague memory is that it's the story of a self-absorbed asshole who learns to be.. slightly less of an asshole. Well, who at least behaves more professionally as a musician by the end of the film.

I don't recall him treating his girlfriend any better, which was probably okay with everybody in charge of making the film.

What is more interesting is why the women out up with it. From what I have read he treated the girls in the band poorly in real life too yet they were both fucking him. They were all enamored by him I guess he could do no wrong in their eyes.

lol yeah and when he was screaming whilst dry humping the speaker as Appolinia was walking out. Not as cool as he thought he was really.

Wendy and Lisa were in a romantic relationship with each other back then, not with Prince. But even Prince admitted that he could be mean at times, not that that excuses him in any way.
