Whose idea was it to portraying a gum-chewing redhead with too much makeup trying to make it with un-attached doctors?

She was really sweet to Cheryl Ladd after they thought Ken Wahl was killed. She should have been portrayed that way during the whole film.

I mean, if the 'redhead with the beehive-do who cracks wise' attitude was 'her' idea, then, fine, she did great at that....you can have fun with that character....but why the dichotomy?

Was it a 60's thing? (I act this way towards guys who expect that, and I act this way with my girl friends)
