haven't many of the cast passed on, some at a rather young age i think, also, after the police academy tv series i thought that meant the end of the movies, i think some of the original cast guest appeared in the tv series, the one i remember joining in was the guy who can make different sounds, it's funny how the only actor (in several parts of the franchise) i've seen elsewhere is steve guttenberg, and they lost him in the final police academy movies, by the way, am i the only one who thinks lassard reminds of frank drebin (naked gun), i always found the casting of this franchise weird, how some disappear for a couple of movies to then return (like callahan), this first movie is the only one i've seen get decent reviews, i think they just became worse by each sequel, the seventh (last) movie is unwatchable i found, and only a few of the original cast remaining, it also has the biggest time gap between sequels, all of these were made in the 1980s i think, and the last in the mid 90s, strange how even though the first wasn't that well received by critics, yet get so many sequels, the people must really like them then, but come to think of it i guess that happens all the time. i saw this air a few days ago, it's a quality piece compared to "police academy: mission to moscow", but doesn't reach the same level as other 80s classic comedies, that was a great decade for comedy movies, anyway, it would be incredibly cool to see another sequel after all these years, but i don't know how they would pull it off after all this time, at that i just replied to an 11 year old topic.
