Harris' shorthand

I just love the way Harris writes the lesson on the board in nutty shorthand:

Police work is what U R here 4! The rest of it I can't make out although I can hear what he is saying.

reply

I always laugh so hard at that scene!! Captain Harris was my favourite in these movies. Any scene involving him was just so funny.

reply

Thanks for commenting. I think it is just funny that he writes it that way. He draws a heart on the board when he says, "And you will learn them by heart."

It reminds me of Text talk. The man was denfinately before his time.

Or Twitter stuff. I guess he just liked doing that to make it more interesting.

reply

Definitely, not definately.

Why this was posted twice I don't get (must be a mistake). Also, he was probably a more realistic example of the training real cops go thru-meaning that the sgts. are tough on them and strict.

reply

The writing of the word procedures was the best. It was a big squiggle.

reply

I like how he also pronounces "procedures"

Also it would have real funny and interesting if when he got called out of the room. If he would have wrote brb or ttyl.

reply

Yes...he writes 'pro' and then strongly pronounces 'cedures'

PLUS!

One of the best scenes in the whole film.

That was funny when Lieutenant Harris talked to the cadets like imbeciles.Wait a minute, that isn't too far from the truth.HA HA!

reply

I agree that Harris is a idiot, but I always thought he was doing it because he wanted them to fail and he was trying to intentionally confuse them so they wouldn't pass.

reply

Harris wasn't an idiot. He was using all these clever tactics to make the cadet's life at the Academy as hard as possible.

reply

No, he was just trying to explain to them what they are supposed to learn:
1. Arrest procedures
2. Traffic violations
3. High speed driving
4. Self defense
5. Exams that they must pass (I guess the curve is a "pass")
6. Learning to use voices with authority
7. Learning municipal codes by heart.

reply

Prince used to use this kind of shorthand for some of his song titles ; he was massive around that time... maybe Harris was a closet fan?

IS THIS SOMETHING YOU CAN SHARE WITH THE REST OF US, AMAZING LARRY?!?!

@stevenackerman69 - looks like you're not the only one who can't make out the rest of it. Blanks was taking a peek into Chad's notes (to understand what is being written, supposedly) while Harris was writing on board. So much about Blanks and Copeland I simply can't stop laughing. They're my favourite characters from PA movies.

reply

I'll have to catch that again. The film was on today on one of the Encore networks. I'll try to catch it next time. But the other part where Blanks says he served in the military and Copeland mouths, "WHAT?" I have caught and it funny because it shows what an asskisser Blanks is.

reply

Did you also notice that funny moment (speaking of Blanks) when Hightower comes down to get Copeland for calling Hooks "Jiggaboo"? :D I won't say what Blanks did there, you have to see it for yourself. I couldn't believe my eyes and couldn't stop laughing. What's funny is how you see it along with Blanks being true friend of Copeland when he stands firm for justice for Copeland's car being broken. I mean that scene where he comes with Copeland to Mahoney to start a fight without actually initiating it LOL If you won't get a chance to see it, let me know. I'll tell you what happened.
