Difference in ending

I know that this board is supposed to be about the tv episode, but my aunt wants to know the differences between it and the book. I'm not quite sure of the ending in the book. Pat(ricia) Fortescue says that 'we' are going back to Africa. Who is the other person to whom she is referring? We know that Lance Fortescue is the murderer, and therefore should have been captured by the police, imprisoned and possibly hanged. So why 'we', and not 'I'?

In the book it appears Lance has got away with murder. It is only when a photo is found of Gladys and her boyfriend 'Albert Evans' (actually Lance Fortescue) that the police can link him with the crimes. The book ends at this point and the reader knows Lance will be brought to justice. No car chase and crash. Naturally, therefore, Pat assumes they are going to return to Africa.
