Possum

I have never heard of Gennie James, the little girl who played Possum.

What a sweet little actress she was! She was just so darling and so very natural. Her scene at the supper table when she exclaims that her poppa has put mashed potatoes on top of her biscuit was too cute for words.

You have so many cute girls pkaying roles do well, but then they disappear! Luana Patten in Song of the South became a minor actress that died young, and that beautiful girl pkaying Matthew McConoughay's daughter in Interstellar might be a has-been in the future!

Gennie James had a successful enough career to make folks wonder why she quit. She played the lead in a television movie version of “The Secret Garden” and was well reviewed for her portrayal of a doomed cystic fibrosis patient in “Alex: The life of a child.”

In a news story about the young actors featured at the beginning of Broadcast News, the Texas youngster was shown practicing cheerleading with another little girl. I’ve always wondered if she quit show business to be a regular Texas schoolgirl.
