Mare Island, Vallejo, California

Real filming location for the in-port scenes at the beginning and end of the movie. I drove by just two days ago and have been driving through Vallejo for years and even remember the big aircraft carrier being docked there in the 80s. The bridge the convoy crosses at the beginning of the movie is the old Crockett-Vallejo Bridge over the Carquinez Strait. In the background of many of the in-port scenes the Highway 37 bridge over the Napa River is clearly visible. There may have been some in-port scenes shot in Charleston, South Carolina, but for most of it, it was just like being back home in Vallejo.
