I think this topic is bound for a remake. Never ACTUALLY seen the film, (have never had the opportunity) but from what I hear, it could look pretty good, what with special effects and such. Esp. if it was done properly.

It might be interesting, & only if it were actually made better, & adapted as close to the book as possible, well one imporvement would be in the area of the dated special effects.
