The Party Animal

I loved this movie... saw it when I was in college years ago, now I want a copy. Any suggestions? Please email me ([email protected]) THANKS!

Set up a search on Ebay to email you when the movie comes up for auction. There's got to be zillions of ex-rental copies of the movie floating around, and some of them will show up on Ebay.

Man I would LOVE to have this movie on DVD. I copied it years ago on VHS and I still watch it now and then for a laugh. I love the soundtrack too.
Somone wrote that this was the only movie that Matthew Causey ever did and they wondered where he got to. I read somewhere that he never did another movie and now he is a professor at some big college. He absoultely hates it when someone brings this movie up. It's a shame because I thought he was hilarious. Cute too.

Strange but your description also fits Ilan Mitchell-Smith of "Weird Science" fame.

Copying from his IMDb page:
"(2000) Is now a Professor of History at Texas A&M University. Does not like having his picture taken so students will not recognize him as "Wyatt"."

Could it be it's just a misudnerstanding?

I believe that Matthew Causey is a Professor at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Or at least he was. I used to live there. I always wanted to take my VHS original down to campus and see if I could get his autograph. Never did it, though...

I, too, would love to snatch this on DVD.

They must all become embarrassed professors after awhile LOL

Pondo (Matthew Causey) did indeed become an asst. professor at Georgia Tech's dept of communication, literature and technology. After the Party Animal, he worked behind the camera on a couple of films, most notably My Chauffer with Sam Jones (Flash Gordon) then he went to Japan and made low budget horror movies for a while. Google also lists a Matthew Causey as a professor at a college in Dublin, Ireland and at LA State U in New Orleans. I can only say that the GA tech Matthew Causey is Pondo, because his picture is on the web site, along with some streaming audio of some of his lectures. A few years ago I sent him an email with a quote from the Party Animal: "Uh, professor? If one wanted to make an aphrodisiac, what would one do?" I never got a reply. Apparently, he hates being associated with this movie. I for one feel actors should embrace the roles that made them famous, revel in it, rather than shun it. Even if he's not proud of this role, it's the one he'll always be remembered for, and there are a whole lot of people who love this movie.

And don't forget Tim Carhart as Studly, who went on to become a moderately successful character actor with an impressive resume in such films as Witness, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Hunt for Red October, Air Force One, & Thelma & Louise.

I for one think a sequel or remake of The Party Animal is long overdue!
Unfortunately, no soundtrack has ever been released. I have been trying to compile one, but some of the songs in the film just can't be found. This movie introduced me to the music of the Buzzcocks, now one of my favorite bands.

I don't know why they are like that either. I hear Tim Curry is like that with Rocky Horror Picture Show also. Oh man, I love My Chauffer too! I would love to get that on DVD also.
I looked for the Buzzcocks song Why Can't I Touch It? forever! I finally found it on a Greatest Hits CD.

I attended graduate school in Performance Studies at NYU with Matthew, was a member of Michael Kirby's Structuralist Workshop with him, and attended his play in New York THE ECSTASY OF SAINT ZERO. I haven't kept up with him since those days, but he was, and surely still is, an intellectual and a serious creator. Although he can do the gonzo thing on camera, it's not who he is, and perhaps he found, not acting on camera, but the professional LIFE of the actor an uninviting prospect for a man of his intelligence. Basically one is submitting one's body, personality, talent -- one's entire being -- over and over to producers and directors who may be, and in his case almost certainly are, less educated or intelligent than oneself. There are a lot of people who fell in love with Matthew watching this film, and I hope he enjoys that on some level, even if he doesn't want to be defined by it. He always had an electric personality, and it's nice that it should be preserved in some way.

I have it on DVD (brand new) and I got it from Amazon although it's not listed as available. Some may try the site Half.com which has just about everything! Good luck everyone!

Finally got it from Priceminister.com (french site), and I was so happy; this lowbudget movie is so funny, the girls are so cute, and Matthew Causey is wonderful.

Message to Mr Causey: don't be ashamed for this movie, you make me laugh hard and this film is one my favorite, you were acting very well too, despite what you can think about it.

Thanks a lot for this movie I saw when I was 15yo and, now 34yo, can't let pass a year without watching it again.

to ducdebrabant:
It's great that you actually knew Causey; he is definitely an intellectual, as I realized from listening to some of his college lectures on line. I can totally understand why he would feel stifled by producers and directors less talented and/or intelligent. I'm no genius, but I work in TV and I can totally empathize with how frustrating it is to be put down creatively by someone higher up with less talent and who's only interest is the bottom line. Even though The Party Animal was a low-budget, unpolished B film at best, there was some truly great talent there. Causey really shined in the role, and I hope he does at least appreciate how many people he made laugh till it hurt-and are still laughing 20 years later. It doesn't take critically acclaimed quality to produce great entertainment.

Could you point us Causey fans in the direction of these online lectures?

The lack of a soundtrack is terrible, especially as so many of the songs are impossible to get. Also, I hate how the DVD version is missing several of the original songs. I've been on a mission to track them down, and here are the results:

REM "Radio Free Europe" - available on compilations, but there are a couple of versions of it.

The Buzzcocks - all tunes available on the "Singles Going Steady" compilation.

The Fleshtones - tracks available on vinyl on the albums "Hexbreaker" and "Roman Gods". If you want them on CD, the album is called "Living Legend Series" - it's been deleted for ages and used copies go for a fortune.

Chelsea "War Across The Nation" - available at Amazon on the "Urban Kids" anthology.

Dream 6 "Rain" - original version available at CD Baby on the "Dream 6" album. Updated version done by Concrete Blonde on the "Mexican Moon" album (I think).

The Untouchables "The General" - live version available on the "Decade Of Dance" album.

I haven't managed to locate any of the other tracks, but I'm still on the look-out!
