If you think so you are clearly missing it's point as you obviously lack intelligence.
shareSo that's the only idea your brain can come up with to explain this difference in opinion. Huh.
shareIf you think so you are clearly missing it's point as you obviously lack intelligence.
What is the point?
shareIt was a very significant phone call. It was the most important event in the film, and it cost his friends their lives. As the movie takes place in the form of Noodles' memories, it's very fitting that it begins with the phone ringing incessantly in his head, reminding him of the thing he wishes more than anything that he could change.
shareDidn't think about it like this. You're right.
Having an opinion can save your life. Just ask Marvin.

That was the point. I phone ringing and ringing without being answered creates this weird tension. That's been lost in the era of cell phones.
shareI'm sure that was the point. A phone ringing and ringing without being answered creates this weird tension. There was no voice mail that would just kick in. Ever. So if the caller didn't hang up, it would keep ringing forever. And the fact that the caller DIDN'T hang up creates a slowly increasing vague feeling of menace and stalking and dread.
This of course has been completely "fixed" by cell phones. A Tay Swift ringtone playing through a smartphone speaker for 8 seconds before going to voice mail hardly brings any dramatic tension to it.
I guess I just didn't get it. This is well before answering machines and cell phones. It's before my time.
shareIt is a parallel to the sque-e-a-eeking windmill in Once Upon A Time In The West
