CONEY ISLAND mural in bus station at beginning (Possilble Spoilers)

When Noodles takes the first bus to Buffalo, there is some lengthy time spent on the Coney Island Mural. Is there any special significance? The friends had talked and explored swimming and the sea shore before that, but Coney Island is never mentioned. On the other hand, the side shows and attractions that the mural seems to advertise at Coney Island could suggest some kind of 'slight of hand' or rubish cheat to the public, like maybe Noodles has an inkling that Max might have betrayed him.

... it might have been just a way to indicate a time-jump in the film, although I could be wrong though.

The "Love" graphic replaces the Coney Island add during the sixties phase of the film. Although the multi-paneled door is the same as the door in Fat Moe's bar that leads to Deborah's rehearsal area.
