The acting in this movie is actually awful.

Nancy's mom, Nancy, Tina, Nancy's dad, etc. The performances were just bad all the way around.

I'm rewatching all the films.
Kinda surprised about how bad the acting on this one was, really, it ruined the movie IMHO.
Part 2 had way better lead actors, just for that and for the more serious tone I like it more than this first entry.
Dream Warriors felt more ambitious but still, Nancy sucked, not as much as in the first one, but sucked.

I re-visited the first film last year and was also taken aback by how bad the acting was. You'd think they would've at least cast a better actress for the lead role. The poor acting and the muddled ending were the two main things that bugged me about the movie.

I just finished watching the sequel (for the first time), and I enjoyed it more than the first film. The acting was way better, and the scene where Freddy came out of the guy's body was really creepy. There were also a lot of other interesting scenes and effects. I don't understand why the movie gets crapped on so much.

I guess I should go through and watch all the other Elm Street films now. I'm curious to see how they all compare.

Welcome to Fright Night....for real. 

Generally I love Heather Langenkamp's acting in this - I think she really sold it. However, in the first part of the film there are moments of really horrible acting. Like when her and Tina are walking to school together. Heather's delivery at certain moments in the early part of the film is cringeworthy, but 95% of the time I think she's great. And I have no problem with the other actor's performances.

I don't think any of the performances stand out as bad either. Nancy really gets great towards the end when she is all alone and has no other option but to fight. I think Heather did a good job of making us root for the character and taking her from carefree teenager to someone who has to fight to survive.

And I especially enjoy Ronee Blakley's performance as Marge Thompson. The entire time you can feel something hiding underneath the surface, like she knows more than she's telling. She drinks to try to numb from the harsh past and the pain of the present. Marge is a very interesting character and I feel Ronee did a good job of giving her layers.

Watching it again as an "adult" with my teenage daughter. The acting sucks! Even Johnny Depp. The mom is so horrible
