Incoherent Mess

Dance with me, dance with me.

Going in, I didn't know they were individual films in their own right. Had I known, I likely would have stayed away and possibly seen the complete films. As I watched this utter nonsense, characters abruptly appeared just to be killed off, characters appeared out of nowhere, characters make reference to things that apparently happened off-screen, etc... Basically, they just took the goriest parts of the individual films and mashed them together, whether it all made sense or not. Then they tied it all together with God vs Satan and a spur of the moment music video headed by the screenwriter's son (as I watched, I could only think nepotism had some role to play in the nonsensical inclusion of a singer on that train).

I think the best line is Satan's final, unintentionally homoerotic line:

"Then forever shall I seek the company of men."

You tell 'em, big boy.

I have to admit, I didn't know what the hell was going on, but it was entertaining. Especially the stop motion bits. So, you are saying there are actually 3 films thrown into this thing?

reply

The first time I saw this, I left not understanding what the thing was about; back then, I figured it was my bad because I was high, drunk, or both. For years I half remembered this movie, and wondered what I'd missed out on.

And then I rewatched it.

Erm...yeah. Anyone who has offered up a plot for this thing has an awesome imagination, because everything about this movie is completely incoherent. It's not even Flashdance-level incoherent, where it's kind of like a ton of music videos strung together - this is wholly nonsensical from beginning to end. It's enough to make you wonder if people were afraid to ask 'what is this crap?' for fear of seeming stupid.

I had no clue what was going on in this film, but it's still kind of a guilty pleasure. I adore that song "Everybody's got something to do, everybody but you" and the idea of an anthology film with God and Satan deciding who will go to Heaven and who will go to Hell is a very interesting idea. But unfortunately the stories themselves were a complete mess. It's still kind of entertaining, though. Overall I could only give it a 6/10.
