DVD: Westlake vs. Elite?

Has anyone here seen the Westlake Entertainment DVD release of Mutant? Is it widescreen? How's the picture quality -- better than the Elite Entertainment version?

reply

Westlake's version is of low quality. It's about the same of the Diamond Entertainment release. There will probably not be a better release than Elite's version so hold on to it.

Actually I bought Westlake,s DVD of Mutant because I prefer full screen to wide screen and the quality is OK.When you look at it most of the movie took place in the dark anyway.

The Elite DVD is the best version of "Mutant" to thus far materialize. It's not perfect, but it's overall quite solid and acceptable. It's certainly tons better than that horribly murky Vestron VHS tape, which was so dark you could hardly see what was happening in the numerous nighttime sequences.

My copy is from Miracle Pictures (labeled on the box, yet before the menu there's a crappy CGI logo for Passion Productions). I can't compare it to the other two, but this looks like a so-so decent VHS rip.

Mine is Platinum, which I believe has been acquired by Treeline. It's a VHS rip, but not a terrible one. Audio is good, picture is better than tolerable.

Just to contribute to the info dump, I have a DVD from "Liberation Entertainment," it also has a distributor logo on it for Genius Entertainment. It is widescreen, clear, and uses a decent print in good repair. Also very cheap, 5 bucks. It features a trailer not advertised on the DVD jacket.

I got the Westlake version. And this movie is not good enough to upgrade. That is unless the price is right.

I can't remember which company I bought the DVD from. The cover shows power lines with some trees in the background, and some weird alien looking formation in the clouds. The picture is widescreen and I think it is pretty decent quality. Anyways, since Blu-Ray is all the rage nowadays I think it's about time for a Mutant Blu-Ray release.
