She's of course the best option for Roy when compared to a psycho gal (Barbara Hershey's character) who tries to murder him before he gets to the big leagues and a jock sniffing slut (Kim Basinger's character) who tries to bribe him and then pulls gun on him.

Glenn Close in this movie, is presumed to be this kind, pure as the driven snow type of woman but she has his kid and never tells Roy until many years later. And what's not to say that had Roy not played in big league baseball (I'm saying that since, it isn't officially said that it's Major League Baseball) that he would've ever have known.
