filmed at my dads house

some of this miss marple episode was filmed at my dads house, two of the kitchen scenes, the one when megan is sitting down after finding the maids body and also the one when megans body is put in the gas cooker. it was very exciting especially to meet Joan Hickson, she was a lovely lady.

Cool!

"There were a few, but they all had the same problem... They weren't you, honey."

Could you settle a dispute for me please. We've been trying to work out which village is Lympston in real life. Is it in Hampshire or Bucks?

reply

Neither.

The main street scenes were filmed in the delightful village of Hoxne (pronounced Hox'n), Suffolk. Church Hill is where Megan falls of her bicycle, whilst attempting to make the acquaintance of the RAF "croc", Gerry Burton. The village centre can be viewed in detail on Google Streetview.

The Symmington's rather splendid house, in real life, is quite nearby, approximately 300 metres north of the junction of Hoxne Road and Syleham Road, grid reference - 52 degrees 21'36.0 North, 1 degree 13'55.43 East. You can view it clearly on Google Earth, but unfortunately on Streetview it is comprehensively obscured by a huge Horse-chestnut tree. The panelled drawing room in which Mr Pye held his drinks gathering, was filmed in the same house too.

Whilst living in nearby Eye some ten years ago, I happened to go to a drinks party there and recognised it straight away as being the film location. The owner of the house was a handsomely aged WW2 fighter pilot by the name of Jonnie, who prior to the war, taught Mussolini to play table tennis. Or so he claimed....

I recall too over a number of subsequent visits, the Union Jack always flew on a high flagpole set in the centre of the front circular lawn, which you can just make out when you zoom in.

I hope the above settles your dispute!
