Question about the ending

Can someone explain to me the end where Robin Williams character is jumping down on the street saying I am free as a bird when is friend is on a bus wearing a some Russian headset?

reply

from the beginning of the movie...remember when he and his friend made the same gesture? it was the start of his new life in America, and a good ending to the movie. what do ya think?

reply

I understand that much but it seemed like his friend was being sent back to Russia am I right?

reply

You are correct. His friend was being sent back to Russia. Their shopping trip in Bloomingdales was one last stop before getting back to the airport to catch their flight back to Russia.

reply

Why was his friend being sent back to Russia though I mean his friend was born here is USA so why would he be sent back?

reply

You are mistaken. His friend was not born in the USA. His friend was born in Russia.

reply

The security guard was born in Russia? I have not seen the movie so how did he wind up on a bus

reply

Oh! You meant his black friend! The security guard at bloomingdales! I got mixed up as to who you were refering to.

His friend, the security guard was NOT on the bus with the other circus performers. His black friend went to Alabama to see his kid. Robin Williams character gave his black friend a russian hat as a gift.

reply

LOL that would have been an interesting ending huh, I am free as a bird oh and ENJOY communist Russia LOL. Oh I am sorry now I understand I thought the security guard at bloomingdales was being sent back to Communist Russia and Robin Williams character was in the street gloating about being in America.

reply

At the end, though, Vladimir mentions in his letter to his family (and we briefly see) that Lionel came back from Alabama and is now a driver for (presumably) the same limo company Vladimir used to work for.

"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."
