Civics Class

This should be required viewing for high school civics classes. (If they still -have- civics class.) Especially these days with all the xenophobia. I just watched it again for the 1st time in 30 years and it's even more relevant than ever.

You'd have to be of a certain age (or lived in Manhattan back in the day) to get a lot of the gags, but still... it's a pretty poignant movie. Williams is great.

My -only- niggle... and this is pretty anal I admit. Why is it that in EVERY movie where a Russian guy says 'Keh Geh Beh' when speaking Russian (correct), when he switches to English he says Kay Jee Bee... like an American. Foreigners just learning English don't do that. They still say 'Keh Geh Beh'. Other than that, his accent was pretty darned good.

Probably for the benefit of an American audience (think Reagan era). I assume the dialect coach would have brought the correct pronunciation to everyone's attention.

I couldn't agree more with your civics class point. Pretty amazing that such a "topical" movie (Cold War) turns out to be so timelessly relevant.

"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die."
