This film has not been screened .......

........ as part of the tribute to Robin Williams. The films shown on TV and elsewhere have been "Good Morning, Vietnam," ... "Dead Poets Society" .. "Mrs. Doubtfire" .. etc ... but NOT "Moscow on the Hudson" -- Is there a problem with licensing?

reply

um...I doubt it has anything to do with licensing. You are comparing apples to oranges. The movies you listed are good films that showcase Robin Williams' talent. Moscow on the Hudson is not that great. Just because he stars in the film doesn't mean it deserves to be added to a tribute. Nobody is clamoring to see this film to remember him by.

The people you idolize wouldn't like you.

Wrong---this IS a good film, and it's showing on the MOVIES channel for anyone who wants to see it. And it was a good early showcase for both his dramatic and comedic talents--along with a great supporting cast backing him up---he even took lessons to learn to speak the actual Russian language in it. You sound like you haven't even seen the film, so obviously you don't know whether it's good or not. I have seen it (also saw it back in the day---liked it then, and I still kind of like it now.)

I agree. I always found much of his comedy to be over the top and manic. I think he had a true gift for more dramatic roles like this one. I also loved him in Awakenings and Good Will Hunting.

And yes, it is shown in the Movies! TV Network, if you live in a city that has it. I actually caught the tail end of it this morning. It was the first of his movies I had watched since his suicide, and I just cried. What a loss. It will be showing again tomorrow evening, and I will be watching.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is my favorite Robin Williams movie. Still holds up amazingly well for being so "topical", thanks both to the humanity of the story and to Williams's performance. This is Robin Williams at his best.

(By the way, he learned the sax as well as Russian for this role.)

Well said. I just watched it on Cozi and it brought tears to my eyes as well. He was a talented actor and the rest of the cast was marvelous as well. As a born and raised New Yorker with immigrant parents it had a special significance to me...great film.

 Relax...it's just a message board

I totally disagree with you on the quality of the film and we may just have to disagree. I find it one of his greatest roles -- I just love the film. It's so indicative of the times re: Soviet/US relations, though whether his character actually would have been able to defect if it were a true story is unknown. I am sad that Moscow is largely a forgotten film.

Had he gotten to the proper authority, likely he would have. I'm not sure whether a security guard at Macy's or even the NYPD are the proper authority.

This is a wonderful movie with two great stars and a great director and really features New York City. It's one of Robin Williams best.
