Many he sure did get off easy compared to Mike. Mike appeared to have been bludgeoned and ripped open judging from all of the blood in his flat. Pete, on the other hand seemed to have been just suffocated with a plastic bag.

Pretty disturbing flick and would consider this to be a horror film for a thinking person.
The death of both of those characters was meant to be horrendous and to be set as an example.
Now,about which person suffered the most-Pete's death appears less bloody than Mike's death,but if you consider what he's been through during the chase and the hunted animal feeling that preceded his killing,I doubt that he suffered less.
You're absolutely right-Bridges showed his skill in directing almost horror thrillers in this film.Underrated filmmaker and extremely underrated gem.
