I didn't see the end..What happened?

I couldn't wait to see the end when it was on Starz last week because I was in a rush for an appointment. So, thinking that Starz would show it another billion times, I left it. I come to find out that I won't be coming on. Will someone please tell me if he ended up with both women at the end? I'd like to know. Thanks!

There is no place like home.

He didn't exactly end up with both women but he did continue to have a close relationship with his children....yup....all 6 or 8 of 'em so I suppose he did 'end up' with both women so to speak! Sneaky thang!

Peace.

Yeah it was kind of like A Clockwork Orange Thing.

You think he was done with deceiving Micki & Maude but he went back to his old ways.

as I remember, Micki and Maude both started divorce proceedings against Rob and got on with their lives, which leads you to believe that he lost both of them.

Your memory was failing you. I'm watching the end credits as I type this. They both take him back, making him promise not to tell the other Mrs. Salinger. There is no ambiguity about that.

Leo (Richard Mulligan) tells him that he's "a lunatic," and that he has to tell them. Rob (Dudley Moore) promises that he will tell them, but that he has "to pick the right moment."

In the next scene, it is clear that months have passed. There is a short montage showing that Maude is a judge and Micki is a cellist with an orchestra. Rob is shown in a park, with both children, changing his daughter's diaper.

Then there is a cut-scene, which is clearly set 6 or 7 years later. Rob shown in a tight shot seated on a park bench feeding an infant. As the camera zooms out, He is revealed to be surrounded by his 6 other children. One of his older daughters says "When are we going to go home and get some candy?" Rob answers that they are going home in half an hour. That clearly indicates that he lives with his children.

Now, whether the two women have separate homes or whether they all live together is never revealed. But one thing is certain, when the final shot fades, old Rob is living still the dream!

Near the end, both women insist on divorces and him never seeing either baby again. But after he pursues the children desperately, Micki relents. The ending is not spelled out, but we see Maude playing in an orchestra, and we see him with 3 older kids and holding another baby. My interpretation is that he divorced Maude, who really couldn't raise her child because her career kept her traveling, raised both babies with Micki, and had several other kids, who he loved dearly
