Possibility for a new dub version?

Hi there,
I was wondering, at the moment because of the legalities and all making it so that this Macross movie can't come back to the US at the moment, what if a company from another country bought the rights for that country, like an Australian company buys it to show only in Australia or a UK company for the UK, would they be able to release it and perhaps even create they own dub? Or would there be legal problems?
It would be helpful it that was possible, the company can create a better dub and it would be available for US buyers to get it on import. The way things stand at the moment, neither subtitled or older dub is available in any English speaking territory at the moment unless it's fan-produced or second hand.

As of two years ago the legal status of the film had not been altered. The rights to its export are still tied up.

I'd like a better dubbed version. I never saw all of "CLASH OF THE BIONOIDS" though, but the cast sound bad. That Rick Hunter character, what's his name sounds like a British accent sometimes. From what I've seen Roy is annoying drunk too.

I'd pretty much stay with the ROBOTECH show, but I'm curious about this film. Would rather see it dubbed though.

There's no two ways about it man, you either like Robotech or you like Macross. They are completely different universes which when you try to watch in combination, is probably gonna leave you more confused than anything. What came first, Macross or Robotech? Macross. The original Macross story is the same in Macross and Robotech(almost), but after that, Robotech is just a hashed up cartoon consisting of 3 completely different animes to make one story. Refer to wikipedia.org if ya don't believe me.

This is where the two universes seperate. Macross Universe, very complex and exciting. Robotech Universe, hashed up and made easily digestable for people.

Each has it's own canon and persona. Ya just gotta realize what came first and what it was intended to be in it's original form, not re-written to appease the "uncultured."

So because I like ROBOTECH, I won't like DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE? Dubbing doesn't mean the music and voices, and names have to be the same as Robotech. I'd just prefer to hear the movie in english.

I saw the english dub of MEGAZONE 23, which was pretty decent. And I'm a fan of ROBOTECH: THE MOVIE.

This is common knowledge. I also take exception to your use of "uncultured" because there are a lot of adaptations between media the world over, who is and who isn't? We have a habit of treating foreign material as being somehow inherently superior when its better to explain it as just being different. I wish fans of the original series wouldn't try so hard to place themselves in a vanguard because when it comes down to it Robotech was probably their first experience with the the story and perhaps anime in general. It deserves a level of respect on those grounds alone. Of course, the source material is exemplary, as you point out.

Robotech does a great job in teaching what creative writing and adapting can do, and I thought that the relationship between the three series was inherent in the first place, human interactions with aliens are quite interesting to play around with in fictional environments, and the three works place a great emotional/romantic bend to it all. Robotech is great, and just because it was made and enjoyed by Americans does not make it "uncultured"

One more thing; my former boss's husband headed up Bandai, and from what I recall, owned all the foreign rights to a lot of anime, Macross included. I don't mean to be to critical of him, but he didn't strike me as the kind of guy who cared too much about the end product. As long as he had the exclusive license.

Pretty dissapointing, because I don't think he really realized how hot a property the Macross TV show and movie were.

I would honestly rather have a dual audio version so that viewers could choose what language to view the movie in. But yeah seriously this needs to be put back on the shelves, it's such a horrible shame that Harmony Gold won't let it go yet they won't release any new copies to the public.

The US distribution rights were last owned by Pat Riley. back in 1989. That has not changed to be the best of my knowledge.

You can go to rifftrax.com and sign up as a freelance riffer. Then you can create your own audio track for any anime for which you want a dub and post it there.
