30th Anniversary Bluray

I don't know how this slipped by me but a remastered bluray disc was released back in July. This was a Japanese release. We won't be seeing a US release any time soon.

I can't imagine it being worth the money. I have the special edition region 2 released for Japan's domestic market, and you see pretty much every detail there is. I'll add that the DVD had some animation corrections to the original film which I also have on VHS, as well as cutting out the smoking reference just before the alien press conference. So, the film's been as modified and improved as it could be. I don't know what more could be done with a blu-ray release.

I just ordered the limited edition for this product, on another site.

It includes macross flash 2012 in BD, a games for the PS3, a book, etc.

Still waiting for it :)

Was it worth it?

I saw it, and the image on the DVD is actually better. The colors on the DVD are more vibrant and fuller, and there's no film artifacting on the DVD, verse the bluray which has splotches of film artifacts all over the place.

The colors on the bluray are muted, the grain overwhelms the image at times. The opening shot is the best example. On the DVD it's very rich and clean, but on the bluray it's very splotchy. It was not remastered in the least.

And at a couple of the points the film skips in the gate during the transfer, leaving a blur on the image in more than once scene.

I can't recommend this to anyone who's seen either the original DVD or VHS release, and I have both.
