Music from the movie

We've already had a thread about the soundtrack from the movie and how no one has ever been able to find it. I recently won a 45 record on ebay of the movie's title song "Lovelines" performed by Souvenir. On the record it says the song is taken from the original motion picture soundtrack. The 45 is a promotional copy only, but it gives me hope that maybe somewhere out there someone has a promotional copy of the soundtrack. It only took 23 years, but at least I finally have one song from the movie!

reply

hi just wondering what the b side is thanks

reply

It's the same song on both sides. I was hoping for another track from the film for side B, but no such luck.

reply

Oddly enough at the end of the movie it says "Soundtrack available on MCA... Records and Tapes" so there must have been a proper OST. Or did they change their mind after finishing production and cancelled it?

PS. It would be nice to able to listen to that song again :whistles indifferently:

reply

I'm thinking they did change their minds. I have the Press Kit and it said that the soundtrack was going to be released on Mike Curb's record label through MCA. Doing research, it looks like Curb records never release this. Boo.

reply

Boo is right! I recently found the movie on Amazon, and it is in great condition, so I was pretty happy!

reply

The commercial 7" version (which is much rarer than the already rare white label promo) has "Number One" on the B side.

The soundtrack was indeed never released. Curb/MCA assigned it a catalogue number and everything, but cancelled it at the last minute.

I would love to have this soundtrack. I'm such an 80's junkie. I remember when my sister and I would sing along with "Totally Gone" and we didn't even know what it meant. And I absolutely love the song that plays when Rick and Piper dance together at the auto shop blowout (or whatever it was called)... when they're wearing costumes.

I'm at my best when I'm at my worst

reply

the song is hold me tonight by souvenir. that is one of my favorite songs from the movie

I would love to have a copy of "A Time Like This Again"...The music was so great!

reply

There may be a possibility that the soundtrack has been bootlegged. You never know. Just keep looking around.

Just a suggestion.

reply

I have 12 songs from the movie but most have movie dialogue in them.

There is another thing that you could do. You could contact both Curb Records and Universal Music, which was formerly MCA Records. They would probably have the rights to the master tape of this particular soundtrack. MCA Records is no longer in use for popular music, except for country music artists on MCA Nashville, as the label was absorbed by their Geffen Records subsidiary in 2003. Below are the addresses for both record labels as I got them both from their respective websites:

Curb Records
48 Music Square East
Nashville, TN 37203

Universal Music
1755 Broadway
New York, NY 10019

Universal Music also has a California office as well:

Universal Music
2220 Colorado Avenue
Santa Monica, California 90404

It wouldn't hurt to contact them. You never know.

Another idea is that you can go to Shout! Factory and suggest that they see if they can obtain the rights to both the soundtrack and the film as the film needs a proper DVD release as Sony DVD release is really nothing but just the movie on a continuous thing with no menus or features of any kind. It would be great if Shout! Factory could get the rights to both the film and the soundtrack and release them both in a deluxe package.

Again, it wouldn't hurt.

I doubt you'd get much info contacting any of these company's, the looming unanswered and MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION TO FIGURE OUT HERE IS??? WAS THE ALBUM EVER COMPLETELY PRESSED IN FULL??? that is where your going to be able to figure out which path you will need to take on your long and completely brain grinding journey to obtain this OST. They more then likely dropped the album, as the movie pretty much could have never been released and been as well received, bomb the movie, meaning none of those songs were going to have a chance in hell of entering Billboard, receiving airplay, and with the movie bombing, even if they had a single in mind(which it sounds like they did) they had no time to promote anything off of a soundtrack to a movie that was gone from the theaters in 3 weeks, that 45 that I read on here somebody found, that right there was the lead single they had planned on pushing, thats why it's a promo, they sent those out to radio stations to stuff in their playlist, but it never made it, If theres any proof at all, that anyone can find, a actual full blown LP of the soundtrack for Lovelines, then I will help figure out a strategy, I dont believe an entire Strk was ever even finished, in which, all those songs, might possibly have gone back to their creators, so if theres certain songs your looking for in particular, start hunting the writers of whichever song it is, pump the internet and use it for what it's for, you will eventually find someone, and when all is said and done, if you've put work into it, I assure you, at the least, you will at least have an answer, or anyone who wants to pay me to do it, I will never turn down a payday, and I know I can find it. I just dont care about this soundtrack, a couple good songs but nothing I want to begin an worldwide hunt for.

There happens to be a bootleg CD of the Lovelines soundtrack on IOFFER as we speak. The seller is selling the soundtrack for only $15.98, including the shipping. Next month, I am going to get this myself. It would be great to have the soundtrack in my ever growing music library. There is also a bonus track on it, which is a song that was written for the movie, but wasn't used.

I just thought that I would pass this along.

reply

Without a doubt that Ioffer listing is for the soundtrack that was ripped from the movie with the dialogue removed taken from (and available to download for free)here:

I just ordered the soundtrack from the IOFFER seller and it is on the way to me as I am typing this. I will let y'all know when I receive it. I can hardly wait to get this CD and jam to it.

reply

Yeah let us know if it actually shows up, and if it's a vinyl rip, or if it's actually been taken from a master source, very interested to know.

I received the soundtrack and I've had it for quite a while. It sounds pretty good and it's all the songs, but they're ripped from the movie itself and it has some snippets of dialogue from the film. Still, IMHO, it's better than nothing. It also has an unreleased song on the CD called Hearts on Fire by Tyson Moses, which was going to be used in the movie, but wound up not being used.

I just thought that I would let you know since you asked. Thanks.

reply

Thats really odd, I mean it's good, thanks for letting me know, but those arent the original songs, so they have not really ever pressed the original music to a format of any sort, I mean officially, right? but I guess if that's all thats out there, and the copy, and editing has been performed top notch, and it sounds clear, and good, I guess it is better then nothing, cause nothing is our only other option, where did you order this from? is it still available? and did you say it on vinyl??

reply

I ordered this on IOFFER. The seller is selling it for only $15.99, which includes the shipping. The CD sounds very good and as I said, it's ripped from the movie itself. I played it first on my computer's CD/DVD Rom drive and it played great. I played it in my car a little over a week ago and it was great to jam to when waiting at a red light to turn green. It is on CD, not vinyl. It includes an unreleased song by Tyson Moses called Hearts on Fire, which was meant to be used in the movie, but was later dropped. Still, it sounds good and it is better than not having it.

I am still hoping that the soundtrack album will be released officially on limited edition vinyl, CD and digital download.

Regarding the movie itself, it has been re-issued on DVD by Mill Creek Entertainment. It is part of a six DVD set called Beach Bodies 6 on 2 DVD's. Lovelines is the third movie on Disc Two. Other movies on this set are Private Resort, Hardbodies, Sideout, Spring Break and Calendar Girl. The only advantage that this particular re-issue has over the original Sony Picture Classics is that it has a title menu, which is something that the original Sony Pictures Classics doesn't have.

When visiting IOFFER, just type in Lovelines soundtrack. Let me know how it works out for you. Thanks.

I believe that will be the one I posted about on the previous page, it's available to download free from here:

Thats killer, I wish Beach Balls was in the set! as far as them ever releasing the soundtrack, I wouldnt hold my breathe, I mean some of us lobbied hard to get the Police Academy Sdtrk released, with the Jack Mack & the Heartattack songs on it, you know what happened, Max Carl caught on before anyone affiliated with the Strk, and Jack Mack put out a b-sides CD with the songs on it, if I had the time, I would probably start hunting down the artists one by one, who had music in that movie, and seeing what they had to say, cause in all reality, I really do not see them ever releasing the music for that movie, it's just not that well known of a movie, It's not really even a cult movie, or underground movie, there are just a few of us that are fans, and outside of that, I couldnt tell you what else, I mean If I asked 100 people right now, even some movie fans, I would put my money in pretty close to none of them ever even have heard of Lovelines, it's fkd up but true, I will go and check out that cd though, thanks for the tip.

There exist an acetate containing the music of the original soundtrack of the movie Lovelines 1984, but the vinyl was never released.
