I have a lot of mixed feelings about this movie. It's has some very real, serious, emotional moments that I can relate very strongly to. I've never been suicidal but I've struggled with loneliness and depression. And the thing that makes the movie the hardest for me is that three women have left me for the same reason that Iris kept on leaving Larry - because they loved me so much, they were afraid of getting hurt. The latter one drove me into a rushed marriage that was troubled from the start, though I'm still trying to fix it.

And the movie has some very funny scenes as well. But I think the movie made a big mistake in attempting to use "Airplane!" type humor in conjunction with such subjects as loneliness, depression and suicie. I think that's a bad mix and caused the movie to be disjointed.

I think the movie would have worked very well as a romantic comedy. The best moments of the script are excellent as are all of the lead performances.

Hilarious movie. It has an unusual, distinctive sense of humor, unlike any other movie. Funny throughout, with some great lines and moments.
It's hard to put this into words, but the whole thing has a breezy, offhanded quality to it. It's never obvious. It has a quirky, unexpected feeling. You just never know what's going to happen next.

I liked it quite a bit in the eighties. I saw it recently and it wasn't that impressive.
