Balmy Minnesota Christmas

I just caught the second half of this movie. . .so maybe it is explained at the beginning. . .but. . .where is the snow in Walnut Grove and surrounding Minnesota towns at Christmas time? Granted I have seen a Christmas in Minnesota where the ground isn't white. . .but the temps at least call for winter clothing. The townfolk in this episode are walking around in shirtsleeves.
