Wow! Amazed this movie holds up 30 years later

So I just watched this movie with the kids --
It has been at least a good 20 years since I've seen this flick, and I watched it in high def ... Totally held up! I loved it and so did the kids. The plot is pretty 80's sci-fi, but compared to most of the crap churned out these days, it seemed like Shakespeare. It was funny and exciting, while the bad guys were badass. The music is still epic.

I immediately wish for a sequel, maybe with Alex as the Admiral now. I would live to see this sequel in a lighter version a la Battlestar Galactica -- Maybe introducing Earth into the federation. No friggin remakes!

This. It's why people will still be watching movies from The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars a hundred years from now.
