Fan made trailer sends internet into a 'Starfighter' frenzy

So last week a Youtube user posted a recut trailer for The Last Starfighter that's been getting a lot of buzz...

...That buzz has now brought to light the fact that several people in Hollywood, from Seth Rogen to Steven Spielberg, have been trying to get the rights to remake The Last Starfighter, but apparently original writer Jonathan Betuel refuses to budge on the matter.

Tweet from writer Gary Whitta (currently writing one of the Star Wars spin-offs)

I don’t think there’s a single writer in town who hasn’t looked into it. It’s a horrible dead-end.

Tweet from Seth Rogen

Spielberg himself told me he couldn't get the rights after I told him how long I'd tried.

This only confirms what I've always known; though it wasn't a huge hit at the time, The Last Starfighter has built a rather sizeable following of admirers over the years.

I say good for Betuel on this one. You know he's probably passing up millions, but he's sticking to his guns on this. That's admirable.

Only thing this trailer needs is the original score!! So awesome.

I really don't want to see a remake. The film was made when it was made, and that's good enough for me.

Leave it be.

Well, I don't know. The original film was a simple adventure story. This trailer makes it seem like it was a hard driving drama with lots of action, and that's not what the movie was.

Personally, I preferred trailers when they had an attention span of more than 2 seconds; not that that one is bad. I just can't stand the overwhelming jumpcuts of "modern" trailers.

Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!
