The best part of this movie in my opinion was the 'beta' unit.

A whole movie could be made based only on the premise of a person who comes across a abandoned 'beta' unit. What would the person do?

I believe that this was the premise of 'Duplicity', another 80's movie staring Michael Keaton.

But focusing on one beta unit would probably make a better story.

It was called Multiplicity, and it came out in 1996.

You could probably make a pretty interesting TV series, combining events on Earth with the beta unit, and events up in space with Alex.
