If you must remake 80s movies, then remake THIS one

I'm generally not in favor of remakes because it shows such a lack of creativity and because the remakes usually suck balls (looking at you, Karate Kid).

However, I saw this movie not long after it came out and remember thinking that it was a so-so movie. It would have been better with a better cast, except for Robert Preston, and with more realistic FX.

So yeah, I definitely would be interested in a remake, especially with the resources we have now. Imagine better cast, less 80s cheese, and professional advanced CGI...the death flower would be even more awesome.

They don't do remakes for improvement; they do it for money. Sometimes, a remake will be as good or better simply by accident.

I despise remakes. But, I do think in this case that a remake is somewhat warranted. First, not that many people have seen it. Second, the premise is still relevant. Video games have only become more popular and Ready Player One proved that a similar idea would resonate even better today. Third, the visual FX while great for the time, definitely have not stood the test of time. The higher res this movie gets, the worse the costumes, makeup, and CG hold up. But, then again, there are things that are absolutely perfect about the movie. You dare to even rerecord the theme song and I am out.

New CGI can be added, like Lucas did with Star Wars. This movie has everything it needs to maintain its cult status, and believe me it has one. A remake today would be an adrenaline pumped, flashing images piece of crap. It would be what the new Point break is to the old one.
