I used to watch this film frequently as a child. Now, 15 years later, I still enjoyed it. It is a simple but great film, IMO. Effective story, nice cool atmosphere and with a great musical theme for Lassiter. This has to be one of Selleck's better films.
Oh yeah, every time it played on pay tv when I was a kid (12-13 years old) I would watch it. And I LOOVE the main theme, as well as "Let's Face the Music and Dance". I would kill to see this movie again.
A huge musical hit, became #1 Billboard, is sung at very end of film AS THE ENDING CREDITS role. What is name of song & album and artist (TACO, I think)??
Unfortunately, due to big legal battle, official cast recording studio release had to drop this vital song from CD/LPs. It appears ONLY on the film itself...at end.
I love this movie, too. I had to see it again and again, being a fan of both Selleck and Hutton at the time. I loved it! I was about 22 or 23. We rented it from the video store, and I had a really cool VCR at the time. I could pause it and watch frame by frame. I sure studied this film closely. It was one of my favorites. I'd love to see it again.
It had a VHS release, so there are elements out there. I think Warner Bros. did the video release, though I don't know if they still have the rights. If so, it's perfect for their MOD program.
Loved the film, though Joe Regalabuto is a bit too "tv" for things. Ed Lauter is a little better, but their were better (but more expensive) actors for that role. Everyone else is great. They could have had a whole series of Lassiter films, if the viewing public had recognized an entertaining film when they saw it.
"Fortunately, Ah keep mah feathers numbered for just such an emergency!"
Just watched it. Definitely entertaining, never boring...this is one of those 80s movies I resisted watching for some reason. I liked the pace, Selleck fit the role perfectly - good solid movie with a couple of surprising nude scenes too. It's on region 1 dvd, Hen's Tooth Video (same company that released High Road to China, another WB film). Transfer's a little rough at the beginning, but gets better. It's not great, but not terrible either. 16x9 widescreen too. Both are available on Amazon, and I got Lassiter from the library.
It's only an island if you look at it from the water
