Just Wish They'd Had a Better Dialect Coach

"Lace" has long been one of my favorite guilty pleasures; most critics dismissed it as trash at the time it first aired but I found it quite compelling, well-written, beautifully acted (with one exception) and shot, and altogether a great diversion at the very least.

The only thing that grates on me a bit is that this show desperately needed a better dialect coach. Pagan's English accent is not terribly convincing, which is a shame because Brooke Adams is a great actress and every other aspect of her performance is flawless. She tries hard, though; I can't help thinking they cut corners on the budget in that area.

As for Phoebe Cates (Lili), I think her accent was supposed to be French, but she's all over the map; however her whole performance is so terrible that her accent is almost negligible. She's the one really sour note in what is otherwise a fairly nice piece of music.
