did that guy really jump off the balcony and right into the concrete ?
that *beep* looks real and doesn't seem to have any stunt in it, did he really jump into the concrete ? doesn't look like a dummy to me neither.
shareI don't have a Special Edition DVD, or any direct source other than re-watching the clip over and over. I believe it is Yuen Biao, I believe he makes the jump without any wires to slow him down. He does not appear to have any mats or cushioning for the landing. Anyone with a "human" body would suffer terrible injuries. Yuen Biao, by the time of this movie, had spent many years training in acrobatics and fight skills. If I tried this I would shatter into a thousand pieces like a piece of pottery.
shareOn YouTube you can find a few clips of Outtakes from this movie. I believe they were on a Japanese release of the VHS. They show two failed versions of Jackie's attempt at the "balcony dismount". As ever, it is only through seeing the failures that one can appreciate the dangers and skills that have gone into the successful versions. Jackie's version in the movie just looks easy. Watch him miss the hand-hold and fall and you'll definitely wince. As for Yuen Biao, they have changed the camera set-up to show a better angle, but he is just mad.
