It seemed that way. OK, maybe they had their reasons, but because we weren't shown them the "meanness" was a bit too much.

I agree. I think it was an in-joke because Sammo was always mean to Jackie and Biao when they were kids, so maybe the implication is that Moby used to be mean when they were all younger.
