Why do people hate the soundtrack so much?

Okay, granted people have different tastes and all that, but why so many complaints about the soundtrack to this film? It's a little startling at first, but it's supposed to be harrowing, just like the events within the film are. I mean, what are people expecting to hear, the soundtrack to Disney's Bambi or something? I'm not saying anybody has to agree with me, but personally, the first time I saw this film, when I was eight years old, the nerve-shattering soundtrack, coupled with the scenes of whirring helicopters, people screaming and the atrocities of war, really drilled the fact in that people are capable of such cruelty and that incidents like the Cambodian Genocide should not be covered up or toned down by North America. I don't enjoy disturbing or violent film scenes, but I think that the urgency and horror that this soundtrack implies really matched up to the rest of the film and made it very powerful.
