The teacher's drinking habit

Why is it that the tutor, whenever handed any kind of beverage by anyone, will drink ALL of it immediately and very quickly?

Reading "Family Game" as its obvious critique of traditional Japanese family values and modern Japanese capitalistic urges, I saw the chugging of alcohol to be a disruption of the social drinking culture within Japanese businessmen. While the father sips his wine, the tutor drinks it quickly because "no matter how much he drinks, he doesn't get drunk." As food is appropriately connected to the daily actions of Japanese families (like in Ozu's films), drinking, and getting drunk, was an often occurrence within homosocial situations. The tutor's position then works to deconstruct alcohol's consumption in both the traditional and modern sense.
