this movie was incredibly lame

i liked princess mononoke, spirited away, howl's moving castle.

but this was just too much. it combined the worst elements of all three of those movies.

the sentimentality dripping off everything, the in-your-face environmentalist message...the incredibly annoying, schizophrenic protagonist who had to vocalize every single emotion she was experiencing for the audience.

not to mention the ludicrousness of gigantic warships being shot down with regular bullets by some guy in an x-wing fighter.

'WHO KNEW HOW WONDERFUL AND CARING THE OHM COULD BE?!' i found myself facepalming near the end of the movie, as hard as i tried to like it.

anyway flame away

This thread is incredibly lame-- anyone who enjoyed Mononoke but complains about the environmental themes in Nausicaa has to be suffering from "selective memory bias for the purpose of trolling"...

but by all means, troll away-- at least the OP came up with 3 paragraphs of "bait".

If you care enough to go around telling people you don't care... you obviously care.

It's a kids film you silly sausage.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room

reply

Um, can you explain your opinion troll?

I think this is my least favorite Miyazaki movie. The others one I've seen were good and of course I'm a guy so I don't like some movies.

Nausicaa, liked her in the manga, but was quite annoying in the movie. Or of course, I don't like anime girls too much because they're so lame.
I am firin' my lazar!

Implying that all female anime characters are the same, are we? There are plenty of awesome anime girls! Faye from Cowboy Bebop, Meryl and Millie from Trigun, Saya from Blood+, Haruko from FLCL, Winry from Full Metal Alchemist, just to name a few. Try to explain to me how any of them are lame.

Just because you're too stupid to understand it, doesn't mean it's a plot hole

Yes, this movie is horrible

I really don't know what to think of this movie, it's obviously not Miyazaki's best. Was I really supposed to care for some huge ugly bugs? And by the way, why was she still called a princess after her father's death, shouldn't she technically be a queen?

reply

It's not about caring about the bugs as much as nature. If you can't get along with them they can simply wipe out whole villages and there's no way you can fight against them. Miyazaki deliberately chose to portray an echo system that is alien and hard to relate to.

Indeed. That annoyed the hell out of me. I know it's a kids movie...but I just wanted her to shut the *beep* up for once.

Language! The thing that means stuff.

Tss tss... She was the perfect heroin IMO!!!!

I admit, this is one Miyazaki movie that I think I like a little less every time I watch it, not more. I have way less tolerance for obnoxious Mary Sue characters than I used to.

You are such a derp. Period.
