I was just re-watching this and I'm supposed to believe Daniel's mom - in the EARLY 80S! - gets offered a job in California with some high tech computer company?!!
As a WOMAN? Yeah, right. From what I've been taught, until very recently woman had no rights whatsoever and therefore her getting such an opportunity ahead of a male member of the oppressive patriarchy would have been nigh on impossible!

This was 1984 not 1924. Plenty of women had jobs in the computer industry.

They basically lived out their lives on room service and telephoning out instructions... Actually maybe not a film, perhaps this was just a true story I came across.
I don't recall that movie or story. If it was a news story, it might make a fine movie plot..
Weird, looks like it was just a story - I think I must have first read about it a few months at the same time I was watching some old classic films and got myself mixed up!

shareActually, I always thought she was getting to be a manager at that restaurant. She says she's getting trained to be a manager and will get better benefits that she got "working with computers".
Of course, this would mean Daniel lied to Freddy about what his mom does. Maybe he was embarrassed that his mom moved across the country to wait tables.
