Why does Johnny still hold a grudge against Daniel in Cobra Kai (the sequel web series of Karate Kid)?

He's jealous that Daniel is rich and successful and has a nice family, while he's a bum with a failed marriage and a son who he doesn't get along with and no real career. And he's using their rivalry as kids to try and justify ajd that jealousy.

It strikes me Johnny is jealous of Daniel's success.

Some people can’t get over shit that happened in high school.

I knew someone who was a bully in grammar school still talks about his conquests even though he's over 50 now.

Because he's a loser who can't terms to who he was and what he did. He's growing over the course of the show - and you ARE rooting for him - but has a blind spot with Daniel.

I do doordash deliveries and I have delivered food to a couple of former bullies. One of them lived in a nicer part of town and can't help but feel angry more than 20 years later. I don't thank he recognized me. The Setup in Cobra Kai isn't that far fetched.

I guess the writers needed a reason to spark a rivalry between them again. It's weird though when their hostility between each other seemed to be over by the end of the movie with Johnny being a good sportsman after losing, personally handing Daniel his trophy and congratulating him.

I'm someone who often defends Johnny as not always being completely in the wrong but he was quite clearly to blame for reigniting the rivalry. In the opening episode of Cobra Kai, 30 years later it's made clear that he is deeply resentful and bitter towards Daniel out of very misplaced jealousy. He's rude and stand off-ish when he finally runs into Daniel, who on the other hand tries to be as cordial & accommodating as possible with Johnny. Johnny nearly spits in his face and it's clear that he at least in part decides to restart Cobra Kai out of spite.
