Could Elisabeth Shue and Hilary Swank appear on Cobra Kai Season 2?

Co-creator Josh Heald says more stars of The Karate Kid movies could make a cameo now that the YouTube Red series has been renewed. “We have established a lot of new characters and a lot of new storylines that are going to continue to spider web out and expand," he says. "But let’s not forget we have the entire canon of The Karate Kid universe and history. As it continues on and on, we expect to see some more of those characters making (their presence known) as well.'"

I don't think they're expecting Shue to come back, since they established that shes's a doctor and lives in Denver with her Doctor husband. At best she makes a cameo.

They may have a shot at convincing Hilary Swank to come back for a few episodes.

After watching Cobra Kai, seeing Johnny's side of the story (and granted, he was a pretty unreliable narrator), and my own memories of the original movie being kinda shaky having not seen it in like 30 years, I've developed my own theory on Ali. Basically, she genuinely really loved Johnny and at the height of their relationship she thought they would spend their lives together. But as high school went on Johnny got more immature, she just got sick of his bullying ways and just didn't want to deal with it, although she still loved him. Then Daniel came along, and he was sweet and didn't act aggressively stupid and was just nice to her and wanted to spend time with her and, being emotionally vulnerable, she appreciated that and reciprocated. She also possibly subconsciously started playing the two against each other in hopes that it would get Johnny to cut out the crap.

Instead Johnny just walked away from her following the alpha male principle - he got his ass kicked by another guy thus he loses his girl to that other guy. Now she's stuck with a guy that she likes as a friend, but she doesn't love nor does she have any real romantic interest in. She tries to work it out, but being an immature high school student herself she really doesn't know how to handle it. In the end she just does something stupid hoping it would push everybody away from her and she could just start over from scratch.

I can see a lot of that being true. Maybe Ali was attracted to alpha males, and Johnny definitely fit that mold. Plus their parents belonged to the same country club, so it seemed like a natural fit. But his immaturity, and poor treatment of other people wore on her, and eventually she just said enough and dumped him.

While she was still on the rebound she meets Daniel, who was the exact opposite of Johnny, in that he was sweet and nice to people and mostly harmless. Its common for people, especially when their younger, to follow up one extreme, by going the extreme the other way. Then when the Cobra Kai started to bully Daniel, she felt obligated to stick with him, since it was over her to begin with. She did genuinely like Daniel, but she wasn't attracted to him the same way she was Johnny. Then Daniel defeats Johnny and wins the Championship, she probably finally became attracted to him (and probably took his virginity shortly after). But that probably waned over the next few months, since Daniel was not the Alpha Male she desired. Then she meets a star football player from UCLA, who more than likely did fit that bill, and she was off. Daniel was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get with Ali, and she would look back on that year as a "phase".

Bringing All back would fit in. And easily. She's head of a Paediatric unit. And could be brought in to work on Migel's injuries. (Not realising that Jonny & Daniel are involved).

It could also cause turmoil in the La Russo household as Daniel clearly has separation issues. And things are still not right in his marriage.

Bring on season 3

I doubt we'll see Shue, and frankly, I don't think she's really relevant to the story.

She's just the bitch who dropped Johnny for Daniel and then unceremoniously dropped Daniel for some random football player.

As for Swank, I read an interview where they said they had not reached out to her but they do consider her character canonical. Again though, is she really relevant? Sure, she was trained by Miyagi, but she has nothing really to do with Johnny or Daniel.

In any case, I seriously doubt Oscar-winning Swank would be interested in appearing in a YouTube series beyond perhaps a cameo.

She didnt drop Johnny for Daniel. That would mean she met Daniel before she dumped Johnny. She dumped Johnny before she even heard of Daniel LaRusso.

You don't think she and Johnny were still involved when the scene on the beach went down?

Seemed to me that they were going through some shit but not yet broken up.

reply

"Just leave me alone. We've been over this already, I don't want to talk, alright". That's what she says to him at the beach. Sounds like they broke up and he wasn't accepting it.

She also says they'd been over for weeks a few scenes later.

reply

Well maybe you're right.

The first line doesn't seem conclusive to me at all, but if she said directly that they were already over then I guess that's definitive. I don't remember her saying that but I'll take your word for it.

To me, the encounter on the beach looked like a couple on the outs but not yet fully broken up.

reply

She says it at one of the scenes at the school, when they're buying lunch. Daniel asks what the deal was with her and Johnny and she says they've been over for weeks, and Daniel says, "Weeks? One week, five weeks, how many weeks is weeks?".

reply

Ah, gotcha.

Well thanks for the clarification.

Check Hilary Swank's IMDB page since winning her 2nd Oscar in 2004. She's available, and probably wouldn't cost as much as you'd expect.

reply

Couldn't care less about Swank but Shue would be good. Part of the Cobra Kai cliffhanger for S2 is Shue's character sending Johnny a friend request on Facebook so you never know.

reply

Um dont you mean that confirms it??

reply

Well the last thing i saw Shue in was the Death Wish movie with Bruce Willis.

reply

Frankly i don't see the point bringing Hilary Swank on board. Especially seeing her character didn't know Daniel or Johnny. The only connection she has with Daniel is she was trained by Miyagi.

reply

I agree if Pat was alive and on Cobra Kai I could maybe see it but not at this point.

reply

Judging by the cliffhanger for season 2 of Cobra Kai, it looks like they're setting up Elisabeth Shue to return in Season 3. Johnny received a friend request from Allie on Facebook.
