Question about ending (spoilers)

I finished watching it today. Now the killer turns out to be Kelly's twin sister. And Vera Miles's character, the mother, shoots the evil twin.

Now at the end the mother is arrested. Did I miss something, because I don't know why. Did she feel guilty about killing her daughter and insist? Because she wasn't the killer, the twin was and their was witnesses.

Plus, why would you get arrested for killing the killer? That's self-defense.

reply

She was most likely held under suspicion of conspiring to have her former husband wrongfully arrested and institutionalized, along with the other daughter (the twin). I assume that she turned herself in due to the immense guilt she felt, which had been developing throughout the entire movie. It's either that, or Kelly pressed charges for all of the psychological turmoil she caused, which would make this an even more tragic tale in the end.

reply

The movie probably should've informed the audience of it. But like you said, I think it was because the mother felt guilty, it's the best reason I can assume.

Thanks alot.

I would have liked a little more info on the twin sister. I assume she was in the asylum with the father? Why?

reply

The evil twin was the one who stabbed the moms b/f, so she was sent away. which explains her violent behaviour later on..

reply

Was she also the inmate beating her fist against her leg?

reply

Yes that was Terry.

How come her name doesn't appear in the records that Peter's assistant digs up about the Randall family or in the names of the escaped inmates if she was also in the institution?

reply

Well, seeing as how there's no real answer for your question I'd have to say that the Fairchilds probably paid extra to have her name changed and they kept it very hush hush.

I'd still like to know more about Terry. Was she always so messed up or was it dormant until she walked in on her mom screwing another guy?

Also, I just assumed the mom was being taken in for questioning since she shot her daughter. Standard operating procedure for police, even back then right?

reply

I didn't think that the father was in the institution with his daughter, What I gathered was that he worked there. As we hit the big reveal at the end of the movie, I took it to mean he worked there purposely to either a) be close to that daughter, or b) keep an eye on her because he knew how dangerous she was.

reply

That would make sense.

Also, it would explain the scene where the nurse seemed angry at him for working in the wrong part of the building. He'd need a reason for doing this, despite constantly getting shouted at for it. That reason was to be near his daughter.

that makes sense

I have just finished watching the new Arrow Blu-ray, I loved the film for what it is but I can't help but think that it did a poor job of wrapping thing's up. I didn't see anything in the film that suggested a twin sister for instance, my suspicion as to who the killer was remained on the burned man through out the film, towards the end I kept thinking if it's the burned man why are they hiding his face? Towards then end there was no one else it could be mainly due to the cast being thin on the ground by that point. I was like so where is this going, I thought it was going to pull a Happy Birthday To Me ending with Kelly being the killer somehow, and then it happened Kelly's twin appears.

One thing that I noticed that kept making me second guess was that the killer had a blue sweatshirt on which was a darker shade than the burned mans shirt.

Anyway once all was said and done I couldn't understand how or why the killer came to be.

Why did the mother hide one of the daughters?
Why did the dad(burned man) not kill the man his wife was having an affaire with? I assume he is a killer as well and it was Terry and her dad working together.
Why kill the sorority sisters? Surley kill the other man!

The mother clearly has two daughters for some reason one of them was institutionalised the other lives a life of luxury conveniently has amnesia?

At the start of the film I assume that one of the girls walks in on her mother having an affaire, then in walks her dad who attacks the other man then gets set on fire. Clearly he is not happy about it, flash forward however many years later and he appears to be a grounds keeper. The mother still lives with the other man, I assume it's his money that kept her with him and started the affaire in the first place. That much I get or so I assume. But as for the Kelly/Terry twin thing it just makes no sense.
