Is it a true story? SPOILER

I watched it thru Netflix last week and noticed at the end it had a write up that the town of Sutcliff had lost 9000 (?) lives thru what they think was
spraying of a poisenous substance cyanide (?) and it seemed to be a big coverup. My guess is that milk got contaminated and somebody didn't want it known. The Government had no comment on it. So is this a true story or and if so I'm wondering how much of it if any was made up for the movie.

I don't think it's based on any true event. The text at the end was just to close off, but doesn't mean anything in the real world. Sort of scene setting, like "Long ago, in a galaxy far far away".

I don't know of any case like this in the U.S., but try to find a book by John Fuller called, THE DAY OF ST. ELMO'S FIRE. It was published in the 1970s. In it, Fuller talks of an actual incident that happened to a town in France twenty years or so earlier, where a fungus that caused hallucinations got into the town's bread supply. People behaved weirdly, and there were several deaths.

thanks for the recommendation -- i looked for it under "st elmo", but I think you intended "St. Anthony". I was able to find it (isn't the interweb grand!)

John Fuller The Day of St. Anthony's Fire, 1968 Amazon only had one copy for $40US ( i guess it's out of print )

oh well, a library, perhaps? It's been a while for me....

Talking monkey, yeah, yeah. Came here from the future, ugly sucker, only says "ficus"
