'I joined IMDB so I could bash this movie'

So starts a user comment.

My oh my... a sign of all that's wrong with IMDB. You don't get a movie and you join so you can bash it? When one joins with that intent, I reckon it's time for me to hitch a ride elsewhere.

There ought to be a movie-lover's basic test to be allowed to join IMDB.

Or there ought to be an alternative IMDBwithIQ.com

User goes on to beg that his 109 minutes be returned.

At the very least you should qualify your remark by asking to keep the minutes with Natassja Kinsky. Any man who wants any Kinsky minutes back is not much of a man in my book.

Nor is one who, twenty minutes into a movie he thinks is trash, doesn't have the gumption to get up and turn it off...

but then again, that's me, and that's you, and that's the beauty of this world.

Off to find another movie site...

Actually, there's nothing "wrong" with IMDB, nor the poster who was so infuriated at having his intelligence insulted that he was moved to join a public forum to get his frustration off his chest.

Rather, it's *you* who need the Attitude Adjustment. If you are such a moron that you think reviews should be limited to those who *like* a movie, well ....

I fully understand the poster you criticized wanting his 109 minutes back. For I do too. Thius movie is one of those that leaves an intelligent person feeling sickened and poisoned, like his mind has been raped and it will take weeks to get his good vibes back.

And don't flatter yourself like all those who like this stupid drivel seem to do. Oh, we who don't like it do indeed "get it", namely that we can recognize dogsh*t when we see it, we don't need to engage in a lot of intellectual masturbation to try to extract some deep meaning from what is, obvious to most, pure unadulterated crap.

reply

It took you 109 minutes to recognize crap?

I can tell crap as soon as I step in it, and I'm not gonna sit there for 109 minutes feeling sorry for myself, letting my "intelligence" get insulted, before I scrape the crap off!

There's a button on your TV. Push it, and the power goes on. Push it again and the power cuts off. That may be why they call it the ON/OFF--or possibly, the "POWER" button.

Use the button. Don't let the crap stick around, and if you do, then please don't whine about how there was crap on your shoe for an hour and a half.

Now, if you're all sweaty because you bought a ticket to see crap, and can't get your money back, I can relate. But time ain't money, not really. That lost 109 minutes was INVESTED, one second at a time. Your fault.

BTW, this was an average movie. Nothing great, nothing too bad. Forgettable in the long run, and certainly not an insult to anyone.

Hmmm..."Off to find another movie site" quotes you. I always thought a site that provides an open forum for posters to express opinions was being provided to voice both likes AND dislikes. Perhaps, I was wrong. I would be interested, though, in this "new and wonderful" site that gives a test to people before allowing them to join. A test that ensures that every member is ABSOLUTELY wetting themselves with glee over EVERY film in the galaxy before allowing them to join. Maybe, when you find it, you can provide us with the address. I would love to take a look at a site where the "Nazi" regime of site administrators only allows the member to agree on how WONDERFUL a film is and the only disagreement (ooops, I'd better check over my shoulder before I DARE to disagree!!) is who LOVES a movie MORE!!! The funniest thing about your post is, you scolding and chastising another member for voicing an opinion, yet your post is FILLED with nothing BUT YOUR opinion. You snidely imply that a person's IQ is so much lower than yours because they did not enjoy this movie? You are clearly MORE intelligent because you liked this film? Not only did you say he/she was LESS intelligent but also NOT a man (assuming the poster IS a man) because he didn't absolutely jump for joy over this little cimenatic gem, purely BECAUSE Nastassia Kinski (spell it correctly, Einstein) was in it? Of course, now I get it, WHY wouldn't your entire opinion of a film change because a sullen, moody, filthy-looking, greasy-haired lunatic walking around in a bear-suit was on-screen for a whole few minutes out of 2 hours. They should have an IQ test before allowing people to join the site, because their entire opinion of a film should be based on one actress' very poorly-acted 10 minutes on film? Wow, you won me over! You are so clearly superior to the rest of us here! Indeed, I am definitely interested in this 'shangri-la' of a new movie site. I want to see, how boring it is for the site administrators and how sad for you to be proud of and strive to be a cookie-cutter conformist. Actually, don't feel bad though, you aren't the first person or group of persons who want to silence anyone with a different opinion than them or of a "lower or inferior" IQ then them. They were around about 60 or so years ago. I think they were called Nazis.

"GET THE GAS CHAMBERS READY, I FERRETED OUT ANOTHER MENTALLY-INFERIOR HOMOSEXUAL MALE WHO DOESN'T LIKE THE HOTEL NEW HAMPSHIRE AND, choke, cough, NASTASSIA KINSKI!!" CAN YOU IMAGINE??? cough, faint....

I came here to the "boards" to see if I wanted to check out this film and maybe spend a few cents to recorod it.

I've found in the past that the more so-called "intellectual" or "intelligent" people bash it, the better the film. I've found some precious gems in the rough that way.

I am now going to watch this movie, all the way through, then let readers of this site know how I feel about it.

That is, I believe, the purpose of these "boards."

Please don't get me wrong. I was not equating intellect or intelligence with a tendency to "bash" a movie. It's just that the language in many "bashing" posts tends to indicate a "higher" level of education than average. I have been fortunate in receiving a solid education, though I do not hold a degree of any kind. But I rarely "bash" a movie unless it is so terrible, so gross and/or so boring and unentertaining(?) to me that I feel obligated to warn others.

I was taught to keep my mouth shut if I didn't have anything good to say.

All this is, of course, is my opinion, my point of view and should be taken as such.

I think it's a damn good movie. But you have to read the book first to really appreciate the movie. And with Rob Lowe, Natassja Kinski, and Jodie Foster, this movie is just that much better.
