Why no better ranking?

Why does this movie have such bad votes? I liked it very much: funny, romantic, tragic, strange, nice setting, good actors...

I dont believe it either. I have not read the book, the answer might lie there.
I saw the Royal Tennenbaums yesterday and it reminded me of this strange but wonderfull and crazy story of a family who goes through so much. I love it and have watched it many times.
BTW whats with the other movie recomendation: "The Godfather"!? cant see the resemblence.

There is a lot to take in for one movie and it does take several viewings to make full sense. The book makes far more sense because there is more time to tell the story. I recommend reading the book if you like the movie.

i really disliked the film but still absolutely love the book, so read the book even if you didn't like the movie!

I just finished reading the book on advice from a friend.

It was great! So I rented the movie (which I've never seen) and started watching with my wife (who DIDN'T read the book)

I was horrified! I implore anyone who may watch the movie to skip it and just go read the book. I was embarassed trying to explain to my wife how good the story was and why I wanted her to see the movie.

One of the worst book adaptations since Starship Troopers and Breakfast of Champions.

I liked it also and I think that it's an awesome movie, very intelligent and experimental.

This movie was definitely strange, but in no way was it wonderful. Badly written, badly directed, acted and very badly edited. Just another example of Hollywood attempting to make odd behavior seem normal and "fun". Two thumbs down on this one. Rob Lowe is really cute, though.

Its a terrible movie AND a terrible adaptation of a wonderful book. That doesn't help.

I love this movie. I must have seen it 25 times during the summer of 1984.
