this movie was bad

I am sad to say this movie was horrible! I remember watching it when i was younger and thinking it rocked. It was so slow and the acting sucked! The best parts are at the start and end of the film. Love Somebody is the only good song in the film. I was pretty dissapointed in it. I think this film is for die-hard Rick fans. His music rocks...his films do not!!!

You're a good boy, Tommy. Grow up to be a good man. Because if you don't... I'll be waiting.

Agreed. I saw this movie in the theater when I was 14. I had a major crush on Rick at the time. I really really wanted to like the movie. But in my opinion, it sucks.

I saw a bit of it on tv several years later, and it was even worse than I remembered. Probably extra painful because I was such a Rickfan.

Seeing Rick on General Hospital still makes my heart beat a little faster. And yes, his music rocks. But that movie! Ouch!!!

I hate to admit this but--I PAID for it to see it in a theatre in 1984 when I was 22!!!! Why? I loved the song "Love Somebody". That was performed twice in the movie and when Springfield did it on stage with Dolby stereo booming it out in the theatre--it was magic. But that was only like 4 minutes of the movie! The rest is boring, utterly predictable and Springfield's attempts at acting were just embarrassing to watch. The scenes where he showed his butt were kind of amusing though:)

I agree this was a bad movie. I crossed over after seeing another movie and even though I hadn't paid to see it I felt cheated. lol I wish I could get the time it took to watch this movie back. I remember in 1984 the media was really hyping this Rick Springfield movie. He was on all the talk shows promoting it. But a little known movie called Purple Rain came out soon after. Nobody was talking about Hard to Hold any more.

Hard to Hold was really bad, but man Purple Rain sucked. It was like watching paralel movies. The opening performance scenes by both rockers were great, but the bottom drops out immediatly afterward. Great music on both films, but little else.

If only they could have made a 90 minute version of Love Somebody, then it could have been enjoyable.

I don't care what anyone says...this movie holds great memories for me and I thought Rick did a great job..

It is a great movie. I watch the scene where James is leaning on the payphone trying to get through to the woman he loves. There is just something so romantic about that. Yes it is forumulatic of many movies of that era but Rick looks great and it is amusing. That is all you need in a movie. Escapism and entertainment.

I thought it was OK. The female lead was miscast.

Oh for sure on Janet Eilber. Ugh. Her mouth bugs me (it looks really tight) and "you're very beautiful"?? Really? No, no she isn't. Sorry, Janet.

I couldn't agree more. She might be a good actress, but I think everyone was thinking that he could do SO much better! She came across as a frigid librarian, even during the romantic scenes.

The movie sucked!!

Aliens are taking over the earth. Weigh it!
