For one, all the movies you named are American. This film is as French Canadian as you can possibly get as the entire Tales For All series which this is the second film in the long line of films from Productions La Fete have been created with an emphasis on Canadian values.
Second, all the films you named were huge Hollywood budget, block-buster films; even Flight of The Navigator gets thrown in there even though it flopped compared to the rest of the films you named but I'm not being critical on you on your list.
I was 11 when Goonies(Spielberg) came out, 15 when Honey I Shrunk The Kids(Joe Johnston) came out, 16 for Home Alone(John Hughes), 13 when Big(Anne Spielberg-sister of Stephen) came out and never saw Flight(Disney) until I was much older just on TV one day and all those films are truly great but even the list of films you made an example of are very different in each's nature based on each director alone so not really sure how you can compare The Dog Who Stopped The War on that basis list alone.
