So who strung up Barney?

Are we to assume it was indeed Mrs. Deagle? Or was that a red herring, and it was really the *evil* Mogwai?

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I always assumed it was the mogwais. If I remember correctly, there's a shot of Stripe smiling in the bedroom after Billy takes Barney down.

Of course it was the Mogwai, who else would it be?

As I said in my original post, troll, it could have been Mrs. Deagle!
Duh!

Yeah it was Mogwai but I still don't find it believable. They got him all the way down stairs and out the door and nobody heard it? And how did they manage to string him up? They were pretty small. Special effects were limited back then so I guess they wanted us to use or imaginations...

Funny I always assumed it was Deagle...I'll have to watch it again :)

Billy believes Mrs. Deagle did it but it was the Mogwais.

It was the Mogwai. I have the set of Gremlins trading cards and on the card relating to this scene it reads:

"The impractical 'jokes' of the Mogwai continue to plague the Peltzer home. Here, Billy's dog Barney is strung up in Christmas lights outside the front porch."

When I was a kid, I thought it was Deagle from what she said later in the bank and Billys thoughts after taking Barney down.

...the guy in the $600 banana suit - COME ON!
