Silly Moments

I love this movie, don't get me wrong, but like with any film there are some silly moments.

1) The sea louse. While it scared me as a child it looks so cheap now.

2) The American dubbing. With any dubbed film it just seems out of place at time, making some characters sound funny. "He's absorbing all the radiation!" "Completely!" Thanks, you really added alot there.

3) Godzilla's appearance at the power plant. I can't help but wonder how did someone now see him earlier? Once the one guard sees him then the alarm goes off. No one felt the quaking steps?

4) The UN meeting. Nuclear weapons are always the first reaction to some kind of threat, but the fact that the US thought it was a good idea to bomb Godzilla once he reached the bay was a good idea; killing both Godzilla and millions of Japanese. Was that the intention? Two birds with one stone?

5) The American cut-aways. So unnecessary, they never do anything, just watch and update the audience. And that red-headed general is just so foolish. "That's quite and urban renewal program they have." Hahaha! Hundreds of people are dead...dick!

I've only seen the original japanese cut so I cannot comment on neither the dubbing or the Burr-scenes. I always avoid dubbings and while I know why they did the Burr cutaways (it's a throwback to the first godzilla-films where these scenes were spliced into the japanese footage in order to make it relatable) I've never really found a legitimate reasoning to include them as the only option in this day 'n age with seamless branched video in Blurays. It wouldn't be hard to provide both cuts.

But if I remember correctly (I rewatched the film for my own retrospective on Godzilla movies yesterday) about the nuke-proposal, the original proposal was to nuke Godzilla before he reached land in order to minimize casualities. But somehow this proposal was turned into the one where they had to calculate the damage for a nuke in the Metropolitan areas of Tokyo. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they have had quite a bad track-record of spotting Godzilla at safe distances.
