Godzilla 1985 on DVD/Blu Ray?

Does anyone know if and when this will be released on either DVD and Blu Ray? I used to have it on VHS. I really thought it would be released around the same time the original 1954 Gojira and 1956 USA Godzilla release. Also was Godzilla '85 done with both the Japanese and American versions like the original one was?

You can buy the Japanese version (Godzilla (1984)) on Blu-Ray at this link: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TBR-19179D

According to the site, the Blu-Ray is region free, which is good news considering all DVDs of the film are either region 2 or 3.

Yeah, but $73? That's absurd!

However, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the film, it is rumored that Scream Factory will release the film on Blu-ray and DVD in the United States. That contains both original Japanese and American versions of the film on a new 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition in fall or winter 2014, it's a possible guess, but I'm not responsible for giving the news, Wikipedia is responsible for it.

with a new Godzilla film coming out next year, I would say it's safe to assume that we'll be getting a few more dvd releases. Hopefully this one and Destroy All Monsters

If you find out more about this being released with both Japanese, and American versions let me know, because I'd very much like to get it on Blu-ray or DVD. I have the criterion collection of the 1954 film which also has both versions, and would very much like to have Godzilla 1985 as well.

I've seen the Japanese version of this and quite enjoyed it. I am extremely curious to see the American cut though, even if it probably isn't as good. Hoping this gets a release somewhere soon. Anyone know of any alternate means to see this? I am tempted to just by a used copy of the VHS on Amazon, but then I'd have to buy a VCR.

As of today, this and Godzilla vs Biollante are the only two films from either the Heisei or the Millennium series not to be released on Blu-Ray. And Godzilla vs Biollante is scheduled for release on 7 October 2014 (next month)!

Yeah, the Shōwa series still has quite a few gaps. But given how silly it got relatively quickly, that doesn't bother me.

I'd love for this one (as well as Mothra) to get a Region A Blu-Ray release, though.

Godzilla vs Biollante is available on dvd and blu-ray...I almost bought a copy a few times.

The Trivia page says the rights will expire in 2016. American distribution rights? Who owns the US version?

I would hope the Classic Media people who released both the original Japanese language & English language versions of the 50s-70s Godzilla films would have that honor.

Due to the rights issues, there is an alternative on the way to blu-ray. It's the '85 American cut with Raymond Burr. I've seen sneak peeks of it, and it's glorious. Blows the DVD bootleg of the scaled down MonstersHD version away. Whether the USA ever gets an official HD release of Godzilla 1985 or not, I can promise you, this will be the definitive version for the G fanbase.
