Gay Themes?

This is one of my favorite 'cult' flicks, and I've been noticing that it has been shown quite frequently on tv lately, which is a plus. Great music (songs are IMPOSSIBLE to find, if anyone has any tips let me know), great dance/cheer scenes etc.

After watching it a few times recently I've noticed that there are a few gay themes/references thrown in throughout the film. Anyone else agree? One of the more obvious moments was the dance scene in the shower with Steven Shellen. Some of the others I've noticed are:

Rosco the 'queer' (at least I think that is how he is announced at the beginning of the film during the tryouts. He is also wearing a pair of shorts with a 'bullseye' on the backside.

Then there is the whole dance sequence when the group sneaks out to the local nightclub. The leader of the Demons dances with a guy on stage and are soon joined by another guy. The two guys seem to be 'fight dancing' over the Demons chick, but some of their moves are a little homoerotic. At one point the 2nd guy jumps onto the back of the other rather suggestively...

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? Not saying it's a bad thing, being a gay guy myself who grew up in the 80's.

Agreed. As far as Cheerleading movies go, this one was super gay. The main character is a male cheerleader, for chrissakes.

Yeah, I just watched this on YT. I noticed the bar dance scene with Jenna and the two guys. And sometimes one of the guys was in the middle. The shower dance scene was typical eye candy 80s cheese.

I had such a crush on both Tommy and Roscoe back in 1984.

I think he's announced as "Rosco McGuinn," not "Rosco the queer." Other than that, this film is as gay as all outdoors.
